Many wonder whether it might not be cheaper and faster to replace the display themselves. A justified question. A notebook display consists of much more than the one visible on the surface. Much more than resolution and touchscreen function. There are an enormous number of technical values and attributes that make the difference: Display size, screen format, display surface, resolution, type of lighting, connection variants, touch screen, 3D image reproduction, design and much more. Quite a "jungle" of technical details and specifications that is not easy for the layman to understand.

We therefore recommend a cheap and fast display exchange in our workshop. This way you avoid a potentially wrong purchase and save yourself from a lot of trouble due to a lack of technical knowledge. Usually the repair costs only 40€ more than the display for shipping.

  • Can I send in my laptop without my hard disk?

    Yes, in most cases you can send in your laptop without a hard disk. From a data protection perspective, this is often a good solution if you would prefer to keep your personal data with you.

    To ensure that the process runs smoothly for you and our technicians, please note the following points:

    1. When a repair without a hard disk is possible without any problems: For many pure hardware faults, we do not necessarily need your data carrier. We use our own technical test media in the workshop to check the function of the hardware. This is especially true for:
      • Devices that do not start at all or go out immediately.
      • Display damage, graphic errors or a black screen.
      • Defects in the power supply, charging socket or power supply unit.
      • Mechanical faults on fans, keyboards, housing parts or sockets.
    2. When the hard disk is useful or necessary for us: In some situations, the original system configuration is crucial for troubleshooting. This applies in particular to:
      • Errors that only occur when Windows is running (e.g. sporadic crashes, freezes or blue screens).
      • The concrete suspicion of a defective hard disk or SSD.
      • Software problems that can only be reproduced with your specific configuration.
    3. Important information before shipping:
      • Whether with or without a hard disk, be sure to back up your important data on an external data carrier beforehand.
      • If you remove the hard disk, it is best to label it at home so that you can easily assign it to your device again later.

    If you are unsure, simply describe the fault briefly in our repair form. We will then let you know whether the data carrier is absolutely necessary for the diagnosis.

  • Do I have to create a backup of my data before the repair?

    Unfortunately, we cannot rule out the possibility of data being lost during a laptop repair. It is therefore imperative that you create a complete backup of your data and programs and keep it safe before sending it in.

    Why can something happen?
    When working on central components such as the mainboard, the power supply or the storage drive (SSD), it can happen in rare cases that an already damaged drive fails permanently. Even when disconnecting or checking components, there is always a residual technical risk - we can therefore not guarantee complete protection of your data.


    Tip:
    If the defect in your device has nothing to do with the hard disk or SSD (e.g. if the display breaks), you can also send in your laptop without the drive installed. This way, your personal data is safe from the outset and not part of the repair process.

    An up-to-date backup reliably protects you against data loss - regardless of whether the repair is successful or a serious hardware fault is discovered.

  • Is my laptop still under warranty? Where can I find the links to the manufacturer check tools?

    If you are unsure whether your laptop is still covered by the manufacturer's warranty, you can easily check this yourself online. Almost all major laptop manufacturers offer their own warranty check tools on their websites.

    All you usually need is the serial number (S/N) of your device. You can usually find this on the bottom of the laptop, on the original packaging or in the BIOS. Enter the number in the corresponding online form to immediately receive information about the current warranty status and expiration date.

    You can read it out quickly under Windows 11:

    • Open the command prompt (CMD ) and enter the command wmic bios get serialnumber.
    • Alternatively, you can find it in PowerShell with the command Get-WmiObject win32_bios | select SerialNumber
    • or in the BIOS/UEFI menu under "System Information".

  • Will the warranty of my device remain valid after the repair?

    This depends on the current warranty status of your laptop. Please note the following points:

    • Manufacturer's warranty: If your device still has an existing manufacturer's warranty, this will be invalidated by a repair at IPC Computer on the repaired item, as we are a manufacturer-independent specialist workshop.
    • IPC guarantee: As a replacement, you will receive a six-month guarantee from us on the repair carried out and on all spare parts used by us.

  • How can I find out the status of my laptop repair?

    You will automatically receive an e-mail with all the important information on the current processing status as soon as the status of your repair changes. This keeps you transparently informed about the progress at all times.

    • Receipt of your laptop: Confirmation that your device has arrived safely.
    • Cost estimate: As soon as the diagnosis has been completed, you will receive an e-mail with the damage found and the estimated repair costs.
    • Start of repair: We will inform you as soon as our technicians start repairing your device.
    • End of repair: You will receive a message when the work has been successfully completed and your laptop has been checked.
    • Shipping confirmation: Finally, you will receive a shipping notification including tracking information so that you can track the return shipment at any time.
  • How does the repair at IPC-Computer actually work?

    The repair of your laptop at IPC-Computer is carried out in six clear steps:

    1. Submit a repair request:
      First fill out the repair form on our website and provide all the necessary information. This will enable us to process your request quickly and efficiently.
    2. Send in your laptop:
      Once your request has been checked, you will receive an email from us with all the information you need to proceed. Now all you have to do is pack your laptop well and send it to IPC-Computer, Hauptstraße 37, 77960 Seelbach .     3. Fault diagnosis & cost estimate:
      As soon as we receive your device, our technicians will carry out a thorough fault analysis. You will then receive a detailed cost estimate as well as information on the damage found if the costs exceed the approved scope. If the repair is within budget, the repair will begin immediately.
    4. Repair approval:
      If you approve the repair, our technicians will get straight to work and carry out all the necessary work as quickly as possible.
    5. Final check:
      After the repair, we will fully test your device again. We check whether all functions have been restored correctly.
    6. Return shipment:
      If everything is in order, we will send your repaired laptop back to you securely packaged.

    Always up to date: You will be automatically informed about each of these steps by e-mail. So you always know exactly what the status of your laptop is.

  • How long does a repair usually take?
    • Average repair time:
      3 - 5 working days after your approval of the cost estimate.
    • Express repairs:
      Often within 24 - 48 hours, provided all required spare parts are in stock.
    • Display replacement:
      Completed within one working day in around 95% of cases.
    • Depending on spare parts:
      If the parts are in stock (over 15,000 items in stock), we start immediately.
      If original parts have to be ordered first, the repair time is usually extended by 1 - 3 weeks, depending on the manufacturer.
    • Diagnosis and cost estimate for more complex faults:
      Usually within 2 - 5 working days after receipt of the device.
    • Complex damage (e.g. mainboard or water damage):
      Requires around 10 - 15 working days for repair, as additional cleaning and testing steps are necessary.
    • Transparency:
      You receive automatic status updates by e-mail at every step - on receipt, diagnosis, cost estimate, parts receipt, repair and dispatch.

    Tip: If you have a tight schedule, contact us in advance by phone or WhatsApp. We'll check parts availability and, if necessary, reserve components to shorten the lead time.

  • How much will it cost to repair my laptop?

    The cost of repairing your laptop depends on the type of defect and the type of device and spare part. After checking your device in our workshop, we will be happy to provide you with an individual cost estimate.

    The following guidelines serve as a rough guide:

    • Minor repairs (e.g. replacement of power socket, battery replacement or fan replacement) usually range from 99 to 149 EUR.
    • Display replacement of LED display or display unit (between 69 EUR - 109 EUR)
    • More complex work (e.g. mainboard repair or graphics chip) is usually around 489 EUR, depending on the model and the specific defective component.

    If the repair costs are more than 50% of the original new price, the repair is usually no longer cost-effective. In such a case, we will give you honest advice and offer you a comparable replacement device on request.

  • Are used reproduction parts also used for the repair?

    No, IPC-Computerdoes not use used or reproduction parts for repairs. We only use new, tested original spare parts that comply 100% with the manufacturer's specifications in terms of technology and quality. This ensures that your laptop works reliably again after the repair and that all components harmonize perfectly with each other.

    The use of original parts is also the basis for our six-month guarantee on the repair carried out.

  • Can my laptop still be repaired?

    Yes, in many cases your laptop can be repaired - often immediately and more cost-effectively than by the manufacturer.

    Whether a repair is worthwhile depends primarily on three points:

    1. fault pattern / damage

    Often easy to repair are, for example

    • Defective power supply or charging sockets
    • Problems with the power supply
    • Display damage
    • Defective keyboard or fan
    • Broken connections (USB, HDMI, audio)
    • battery problems
    • Many mainboard defects

  • Can I also order a laptop collection including packaging?

    Yes, laptop collection including packaging is very easy and uncomplicated at IPC-Computer. When you submit your RMA application online, you can simply add in the note field that you would like a collection with packaging. Our team will then organize the shipping and ensure that the appropriate packaging material is sent to you. So you don't have to worry about anything else.

    Alternatively, you can also order laptop packaging here in the store. Simply enter the term "packaging" in our search.

  • Can I send in or drop off my device?

    Yes, you can either send in your laptop or drop it off in person - both are possible at IPC-Computer . However, please always apply for an RMA number via our online repair registration and wait for written approval by e-mail before sending in or dropping off your device. Unfortunately, we cannot accept devices without this approval for organizational reasons.

    This is how the process works step by step:

    1. Apply for an RMA:
      Fill out the repair registration form online and send it off.
    2. Wait for approval:
      After your request has been checked, you will receive the repair approval by e-mail.
    3. Receive delivery bill:
      You will automatically receive the delivery bill by email once your request has been approved - simply print it out and enclose it with the device.
    4. Send it in or drop it off:
      • Shipping: Pack your laptop securely for transportation, enclose the delivery bill and send it to our address.
      • On-site drop-off: Bring your device together with the printed delivery bill to IPC-Computer, Hauptstraße 37, 77960 Seelbach at the agreed time.

    Tip: If you need to have your laptop repaired very quickly, contact us in advance by phone or WhatsApp. We will then immediately check the availability of parts and possible appointment options to speed up the process.

  • How do I pack my laptop safely for transportation?

    Careful packaging is crucial to protect your laptop from damage during shipping. It is best to follow these step-by-step instructions:

    1. Use a sturdy outer box:
      Choose a sufficiently large and robust shipping box - ideally double-layered.
    2. Create bottom padding:
      First place a layer of polystyrene, bubble wrap or crumpled newspaper on the bottom of the box. This will protect your device from impacts from below.
    3. Place the laptop securely:
      It is best to place your device in the original laptop sales box in the center of the outer box. Make sure that it is at least 5 cm away from the outer wall on all sides to absorb shocks.
    4. All-round padding:
      Carefully fill the gaps with padding material until the laptop is stable and secure. It should not be able to move when the box is shaken.
    5. Pack accessories separately:
      If you are also sending accessories such as the power supply unit or battery, wrap them individually in bubble wrap and make sure that they are not in direct contact with the device.
    6. Seal and label securely:
      Seal the box with sturdy adhesive tape on all edges and label it clearly with "Caution - fragile" or "Sensitive electronics".

    This way, your laptop is optimally protected against knocks, shocks and pressure and arrives in perfect condition.
